Nigeria's Democracy [A poem] by AKINDUTIRE Daniel

Image
DEMOCRACY Freedom we ought to be enjoying is just a camouflage, Cheating citizens! We are being called, Leaving life in abject and penury without refuge, Ruling us as unsaved slaves in the slavery of slaves with hatred. Oh! Arise, O compatriots, are we even in the era of DEMOCRACY? Arise, O compatriots; to serve our fatherland, are we still LAZY? How about the freedom of association, Where education they say is the key to life, but we've read, fast, yet without occupation. When a monkey seats on the throne, Watching the inhabitants dying, Until the antagonist of love, unity, and peace is dethrone, How could we have the government of our own? Does these mean; leechy leaders, unhealthy Politrickcains, unmerciful dictators are democratic leaders? E be like say 'DEM DEY CRAZE' © AKINDUTIRE Daniel

Nigeria's Democracy; A House of Comedy by WAHAB Mubeen Olorunkuse.

House Of Comedy Ignorant of their country, some people can only relate tales of other countries. A foreigner can't teach us about our land, our doctrine and our government. He can only describe what he had heard, but who we are, and what we need, is something we have to search ourselves. A river is never so high that the eyes of a fish are covered. Heterogeneity has made our journey in a single territory an adventure, revolving round multilingual society, multi-religious and multi-political country, multi-ethnical and multi-cultural Nation. Approximately two hundred million people, more than two hundred and fifty ethnic groups, producing around four hundred languages naturally linked together and share common ties dwell in a house. History can never be forgotten how we recycled after independence into thirty-six states with a federal capital territory at the centre. Co-existing in a territory as a brother and sister using a foreign tongue with a foreign methodology, probably we d...

Nigeria's Democracy; The Devil on Our Cross by AKINDUNBI Ayodele Daniel

Image
THE DEVIL ON OUR CROSS Not so very long ago, a group of people numbered two hundred million, more than two hundred and fifty tribes, and approximately six hundred languages. The people had one thing in common, a country, or perhaps, a nation. Between the two hundred million men, there were two broad classes, the oppressor and the oppressed, or more subtle, the real eaters and those who strive for leftovers from the table of the oppressors and real eaters. Among the oppressed class are set of marauders who served as go between amidst the oppressor and the oppressed. These marauders are docile in the fight for revolution. The marauders are the officers of the oppressors wares and the dogs of their prisons; they are forever detained in the diary of the oppressors. The culture of the two hundred million men had been taken away from them, whitewashed. This culture was the ancestral faces in which they look unto when they needed to see their creator. And for many times, the ancestors h...

Nigeria's Democracy by OGUNDAIRO Omolara Esther

In the succession of time arose a situation that hits the earth like an American time bomb. A parasite that eats the plank till it begins to beg for death. A land flowing with Milk and Honey, the giant of the giants, as tall as you can ever imagine creeps into the darkest phase of life. According to Pennock,1997, democracy is the government by the people where liberty, equality and fraternity are secured to the greatest possible degree and in which human capacities is developed to the utmost, by means including free and full discussion of common problems and interest. This definition may apply to other countries practising same democracy but not to my dear Nigeria.  Nigeria's democracy is a subterfuge of a smothering nation, a camouflage of deception and oppression portrayed by the guerrillas taking the role of the government. A kind of government that delights in the slaughtering of souls without hesitation to enlarge their dungeons. A democracy in which the unserious secon...

NIGERIA'S DEMOCRACY;  A SUBTERFUGE OF A SMOTHERING NATION Good day, dear audience. I'm BLESSING OLATOBERU from the only outstanding citadel of learning with the most beauteous campus in Africa, " ADEYEMI COLLEGE OF EDUCATION AFFILIATED TO OAU "  I'm here to give a talk on the topic: Nigeria's Democracy; A Subterfuge of a smothering Nation . First and foremost, I would love to give a brief description of the country, Nigeria, for most of our seated honorary guests from other countries who will be hearing the name for the first time: Nigeria, a country located in west Africa, comprising of 36 states is bestowed with all kinds of natural and man-made gifts, blessed with the best leaders, noted for an unrivalled buoyant economy, praised for the only corrupt-free-country in Africa for decades. Hence, the name ‘Nigeria— giant of Africa' was birthed  Ladies and gentlemen, I'd be categorically backing up my claims with vivid and grounded facts as to how Nig...

Nigeria's Democracy; Demon Must be Crazy [A poem] by AJILORE Abolade Esther

Image
DEMON MUST BE CRAZY How possible is it for us to whine And dine while our sun lest shine? Our father's land stops honey drop. Our veins soaked terror tumor prop. The saints we saw turn demons. How can we visualize the obsure when lips of masses are cut with sword? When we drink our tears and ignore the cure? You say it is by us, of us and for us. The demon we saved pulled the trigger. You have the shoe and kept the heel Our foot are bare for us to bear. You ask for voice and kept our tongue. The power of the people must be crazy. ® AJILORE Abolade Esther @AblePen🖋️ ©2021

Nigeria's Democracy [A poem] by AKINDUNBI Ayodele Daniel

"...And See our Land"        As hot as hell,       As cold as the face of anger!      Here we are like dead men,      Our shadows like  flame,      Burning through and through.     Our hands are tied, mouths, locked.     Hunger is our friend, and thirst, our neighbour.     We eat in Israel and drink in Egypt.     Now, we prefer war to our hunger!   The head of our country is faulty;   We cannot fix it because it is more than us.   Those who run close to it only dance round the mask,   And watch in shame!   Now, we prefer Hitler to our faulty head!   The head of our spirit is faulty;   We cannot shape it because they are of the spirit.   But, here they are, building paradise on earth,   Riding on our collective wings to heaven, hovering in space.   Now, we prefer to lead ourselves with the heads that we...

Nigeria's Democracy [A poem] by IKUSIKA Abayomi Benjamin

OUR DEMO-CRACY OUR pilferers pilfer and pant for power, NOW; Calling our clarion calls; Sun shines and our shadows overshadowing our BEING; Pickpockets leading our RACE; Shadows of their SUNSHINE overshadowing OUR compatriots; Tell the world the WHITES we have are real BLACKS. Our government ponder on how to pound OUR FUTURE, We ponder back on how to pound OUR PAST; Government of OUR peo-ple, is led by OUR peo-ple but for THEIR peo-ple, TRAPS all we have in this jun-gle; THEY are all DECEPTIVE hunters. Turning and turning,  Round OUR roads, We wonder why we are wanderers of OUR land As our sand is BLOWN directly into our eyes; by our DEAR peo-ple. IKUSIKA Abayomi Benjamin (A.B. Ikus.)

TITLE: MY DEMO-CRAZY I linger to leverage In my so-called democracy Clueless to its incurable savage Led by the educated with no literacy. Leaders of tomorrow echoed behind  Regardless their muttered mouth.  Unity they preach with adverse mind Every law acknowledged they flout. We are mindful of tomorrow For we are not shaken by the ordeal  Our action we will not borrow One day, we shall all rise with no repeal The milk and honey we beckon Shall be ours to reckon. ©Ibiam John O.                 "Then, More, Crazy, Dey!"   Thirty-Seven guns for the generals in armour  Who took us through dark dearth days of blood and scars! Twenty agbádás and counting For the gentle men of the streets Who led us in the rain that drenched till death! A big cheers to the giant toddler of sixty and one years and counting Wallowing in the pool of shame and blame! They are players; dribblers! From armour to agbádá. Whom do they think we are? Infants With no thought than to sleep, wake, and eat? They clung tight to the mantle with their fists;   As if it must to be buried with their bones. "We die here", they say. And if they will not leave, Then, More, Crazy, Dey! ©AKINDUNBI Ayodele Daniel
