A Literary Review To Beautiful Nubia's "Tables Turn" by WAHAB Mubeen Ọlọrunkusẹ

One of the realities in the politics of Nigeria is Marxism. Nigeria has been partition into a significant class system other than differences in religion, tribe, ethnic and gender. A wide and deep dam has made us fall apart to the "Bourgeoisie"— those who control the nation's natural, economic and human resources— and "Proletariat". It's not a fallacy about how the society has been sectioned into the "haves" and the 'have-nots", and how a class believes it's their birthright to own and rule resources.  Music as part of art has been for time immemorial a lampoon and a whistle-blower on society. Apart from its artistic and aesthetic function, music has been used to reflect and refract, encourage, empower and humanize society —only for literary minds.   The focus of this work is on "Tables Turn" by a Nigerian-born songwriter, music composer, and bandleader, Ṣẹgun Akinlolu with the performing name "Beautiful Nubia". Identity by Mojí Wizard.

IDENTITY I tried to wear regalia, like a masquerader to camouflage my guts— but it got stirred. & lost direction like knackered dreams. so... I had to carry myself like a billboard— a mountain of feces that entices a league of tsetses “a name is an identity,” they hummed. but i’ve lost my virginity to street Belials i've lost count of blood to every nook & cranny. my blood now, is every house's paint. an everyday tale in the mouth of street griots. my deodorant perfume reprehends fame. on my wear they engraved ‘Stephen’ so, they throw stones at me… of iniquities— my knowledge is blind to. each lane; each pace—i follow. i see the pile of garbage & the spillage of oil left by the forgoers. i’m the portrait of Evans, carrying his sins. i bear the cross of Hush & Puppy; while I answer Peter. ’Cause they told me, “I am the identity of my mother tongue”. ©F. Round Two Servitude by AKADIRI Samuel O.

Formerly, It was a shout of freedom we all heard, It now come plain, that we are freezed not free, The westerners seems to open our eyes, to radiants around, Later we finally realised that we are perpetually blindfolded. Clergymen preach on the top of their voice, Not long we discovered, it was the cry of their belly, Lullabies song flooded our heart as pet babies, Ah! Ah!! Ah!! pricked in our revolution on their bully. We've forgotten our origin, We've neglected our native tongue, As an ocean that goes up and turns back senselessly, so we are, since we lay under sack kennel. Our legs are stabbed with fetters and chain, Come our quest; when shall we then align again? Powers promised to heal our wounds, It was later; salt in the place of capsule. Fictious laugh in collect of precious gold, Our progenitors sold us to them for nut, They never travel far to check on us, Our world lay await for our disarray.

RANTS AND RAMBLINGS OF A DYING AFRICAN CHILD by FELIX Ayodele Mojisoluwa

‘Nigerian politics “they say” is a dirty or filthy game, my religion doctrines do not permit the full participant, even partisan politics, they do not,’ a circumcised church goer (mostly) would stoutly and stereotypically pronounce sharply to save time in a discourse that needed brilliant standpoint and assertion without borrowing any petty sentiment therein. Religion, an endoparasite. Sighs! The system of government introduced by the whites? Now had a “bad egg” as a tag? Funnily enough, the same white men that came alongside religion? How absurd! We had our own mind, and this is the truth we all are running from, like the prodigal son who failed to recognize the fact that a home is a stool for the bottom. We had our own angelic, pure mind; bulbous African mind without any tiny taint on it before the advent of the colonial masters. We had our own traditional religions in which we were flourishing and abounding, and delighted having —myriads of gods in one body, an embodiment embodyi...

Africanism In The Shadows Of Occidentalism by JESUFEMI Oluwatimilehin.

Africa as a continent is facing lots of challenges ranging from ideological nondevelopment, political and economic instability among others. These problems have been and are being addressed consciously by Africans and there have been recorded success. This paper shall be limited to education, politics and religion. Africa is one of the seven continents of the world, dominated by the Negroid race. The people therein are rich in cultural and natural values. These values are imbibed in the people's dressing, art, literature, languages, traditional institutions and lots more. According to the United Nations, Africa consists of 54 countries, divided into five regions: North, South, East, West and Central. The contact with the Europeans in the 19th century marked a new beginning for a modern history for Africa. Several things took turn to happen and these shape the history of Africa forevermore. The legacies of the Europeans are still obvious in Africa and the fragrance is still there...
